three : sixteen

I’ve been awol! :/ These last several weeks/months have been extremely busy. Because of that, I’ve completely neglected my blog. This will likely be the norm for the next few months, unfortunately. But, today I have something worth blogging about! 🙂

Many of us know the famous 3:16 passage in the Bible…For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. – John 3:16

However, I never knew there were so many other powerful passages that came from chapter threes and verse sixteens in the Bible. Today’s church service was titled “three:sixteen.” Below are the three scriptures discussed during today’s sermon regarding the Holy Spirit:

  • John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” – Luke 3:16 NIV
  • As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. – Matthew 3:16 NIV
  • Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? – 1 Corinthians 3:16 NKJV

I encourage you to read your Bible. Read the passages surrounding the scriptures above to better obtain the context in which they were written. The Bible is full of truth. You may find yourself surprised at how applicable the information in the Bible is to your daily life. Give it a try! 🙂

I should be back here in a month (hopefully sooner!). In the meantime, share some scriptures you find powerful…

Seeding Cucumbers

I’ve discovered a way to seed cucumbers!

Ok, so most cooks out there probably already know how to do this, but I’m relatively new to this whole cooking thing, so I was super excited when I discovered this little trick ON MY OWN! 🙂

I love pasta salad. When I make it, I typically put cucumbers in it; however, I’m not really a fan of the seeds. Well, now I can easily put cucumbers in the pasta salad with no seeds…I just use a spoon!

Peel the cucumber (if you choose). Cut it in half lengthwise. Then use a spoon to scrape the seeds out. I know, I know, most of you cooks out there are rolling your eyes at me – but I was so excited when I thought of this trick! 🙂

Making Laundry More Bearable

Before I was married, doing laundry wasn’t fun, but it was bearable. However, after I was married, I began to DESPISE doing laundry! All of our clothes would be thrown in one, big, heaping pile or in the lone, much too small, laundry basket that would occasionally grace the laundry room floor. It was such a hassle and sooo time consuming to sort all the laundry before throwing it in the washing machine. I had to do something before I lost my mind! Continue reading »

Office Redo Part III-Accent Wall

Well, I’ve (almost) finished the accent wall of my office. I’ve been working on this redo project for months now. See Part I and II here and here. It’s taken me longer than I expected – finding time to complete all the finishing touches has been difficult.

All the décor on this accent wall, with the exception of the yellow leaves (which were originally white), was found at a thrift store/rummage sale, was given to me or was something I already had around the house. In other words, this project was cheap! Continue reading »

Southwestern Stuffed Peppers

Let me just start by saying…these are DELICIOUS!!!

My friend and coworker told me about this Southwestern Stuffed Pepper recipe she found on Pinterest. This recipe is really not that difficult, but it is more difficult than most recipes I’ve tried (I’m still pretty new to this cooking thing), so I was a little worried about how it would turn out. Let’s just say, I’ve made it more than once :).

Check out these pictures. One is MY stuffed peppers, the other is the recipe owner’s stuffed peppers. Can’t tell the difference, can ya? 😉

Bring The Rain

This song came to mind today, so I thought I’d share my thoughts…

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Bring me joy, bring me peace
Bring the chance to be free
Bring me anything that brings You glory
And I know there’ll be days
When this life brings me pain
But if that’s what it takes to praise You
Jesus, bring the rain

‘Bring the Rain’ by MercyMe

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

I’ve sung this song so many times, meaning every word of it. But then, the rain actually comes, and the praising becomes extremely difficult. When your (my) heart aches, it’s so difficult to praise and thank the Lord for what is happening. It must be done, though. So eventually, through the tears, I sincerely praise and thank Him, knowing, believing, trusting that He knows all.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord… (Jeremiah 29:11). He knows the big picture. I don’t.

And, even if you aren’t always on the go, these are some great ways to be a little more active throughout the day. I’ve done the calf raises while brushing my teeth – I felt the burn!

DIY Chalkboard

Picture frames are coming out of my ears, so I decided to get creative for my friend’s bridal shower. For her shower, I’m in charge of prizes! I’m so excited! 🙂 Using Pinterest as my inspiration, this is what I created:

Slow-Cooker Time Conversions

I planned to wake up bright and early one day a few weeks ago to make beef stew in the slow-cooker. However, that ‘bright and early’ plan didn’t quite work the way I planned. By the time I was ready to throw everything into the slow-cooker, I didn’t have time to cook the food for 10-12 hours on low as the recipe called for (unless we wanted to eat supper at 10:00pm, which wasn’t very appealing to me!). Instead of eating at bed-time, I looked for a slow-cooker conversion chart online and discovered a couple helpful websites.

This website simply gives you the high/low slow-cooker conversions (pictured to the left), plus other slow-cooker information that is probably helpful, I just didn’t have the time to read it.

This website gives you time conversions for a conventional oven, in addition to the high/low slow-cooker conversions, which I thought was super helpful!

I just love the slow-cooker. It makes cooking sooo easy! I’ll share some of my recipes one of these days.

What slow-cooker tips and tricks do you know?
