Praying Scripture: Anger | Frustration

Well, it’s been a bit since I’ve posted last! But, I’m back at it! At least for now :).

Over the next several months, I’d like to share with you some prayers based on scripture. Oftentimes I know I need to pray, and I want to pray, but I just have no clue WHAT to pray. Maybe you feel that way too? I’ve found that praying scripture is great because it gives me words to pray, and I’m praying God’s words back to him!

Each ‘Praying Scripture’ post will include prayers based on scriptures that focus on a specific challenge area such as anger, sadness, anxiousness, being wronged, etc.

Today I’ll share a few prayers we could say when we’re feeling angry or frustrated.

Prayer 1

Lord, please help me calm down and have a listening ear. I want to be slow to speak and slow to get angry so that I make you look good and do not say anything hurtful. Guide my words so that they are good, helpful, and encouraging and do no harm. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Scriptures:

  • Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.  James 1:19
  • Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.  Ephesians 4:29

Prayer 2

Lord, I am angry. Help me turn from my anger and frustration so that I do not lose my temper and sin. May I be like you, full of compassion and mercy and slow to get angry so that I may point others to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Scriptures:

Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper—it only leads to harm. Psalm 37:8

But you, O Lord, are a God of compassion and mercy, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness. Psalm 86:15

Prayer 3

Dear Heavenly Father, take this anger from me so that it does not control me. Help me to forgive him/her/them like you’ve forgiven me so that the sun does not go down on my anger and give a foothold to the devil. Thank you, Jesus! It’s in His name I pray, Amen.

 Scripture:

26 And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.”Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 for anger gives a foothold to the devil. Ephesians 4:26-27
